“Rebecca was chosen to design and make the statue. She is a sculptor of enormous artistic talent, and imagination, and sensitivity. She came up with a design which was very quickly endorsed by the campaign, and worked to time to produce first a model, and then the full-size statue. As well as having great facility in the visual arts, Rebecca is a wonderful advocate for what she is doing.”
Rt Hon Jack Straw
“Raised up high, proud and meaningful as it should be, it is a lasting tribute to the fallen of the regiment and its host town. Its permanency is valid and striking. Rebecca has produced a remarkable icon that will be viewed over the years ahead as one of the best. That it is a tribute to such an honourable regiment as the Gurkhas from Nepal and their two hundred years of service to the British crown is right and proper. Folkestone has done something has done something memorable, honourable and timely. ”
